The Escadrille Lafayette was a notable French Air Force unit during World War I, primarily made up of American volunteer pilots. This unit played a crucial role in the early development of American combat aviation.  The Escadrille was formed in April 1916 to allow American pilots to fight for France, and named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, a French hero of the American Revolutionary War.  A total of 224 Americans served in the unit, with 51 dying in combat.

The Escadrille Lafayette is celebrated for its contributions to aviation and the camaraderie among its members, which included notable figures like Raoul Lufbery, who became the squadron's highest-scoring ace. The unit's legacy continues to be honored in various forms, including films and historical accounts.

Honor the bravery of these Americans with this meaningful design.
