George Washington has been called the "indispensable man" of the American Revolution. While there can be, and is, interminable debate about who were the greatest contributors to the success of the War of Independence, George Washington certainly makes the short list. First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen, as Lighthorse Harry Lee remembered him. He was an amazing man. While subjected to constant plotting and criticism, the Pennsylvania Journal stated about Washington, after his victory at the Battle of Long Island in 1776, "If there are spots on his character, they are like spots on the sun, only discernible by the magnifying powers of a telescope."
The night of December 26, 1776, was the nadir of Washington's life. He had written to his brother a few days before, "I think the game is pretty near up." In one last, desperate move, he led his men to the far side the Delaware, a feat which two of his other commanders failed to complete. He saw his men through multiple obstacles, and, hours later than planned, finally attacked the Hessian garrison the morning of December 26. The absolute victory sent shock waves throught the Empire and turned the tide of American independence.
Honor the victory of George Washington and his patriot army who won our nation's independence with this fantastic tee.
