Joseph Warren , a Founding Father of the United States, was an American physician who was one of the most important figures in the Patriot movement in Boston during the early days of the American Revolution, serving as President of the revolutionary Massachusetts Provincial Congress, and drafting the 1774 "Suffolk Resolves."

Warren was commissioned a major general in the colony's militia shortly before the Battle of Bunker Hill, but, deferring to more experienced leadership, he chose to participate in the battle as a private soldier.  He was killed in combat when British troops stormed the redoubt atop Breed's Hill.

Agreat orator, he told all Ameicans, “Nevertheless, to the persecution and tyranny of his cruel ministry we will not tamely submit -- appealing to Heaven for the justice of our cause, we determine to die or be free.”
