Established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt through Executive Order 9024, the War Production Board (WPB) was a crucial U.S. government agency formed in January 1942.  The WPB replaced the Supply Priorities and Allocations Board and the Office of Production Management, and its primary role was to manage and coordinate industrial production during World War II, ensuring that the necessary materials and resources were effectively allocated for the war effort.

The WPB played a significant role in transforming American industry. For example, automobile manufacturers shifted from producing cars to making military vehicles and aircraft. By the end of the war, the U.S. had produced a vast amount of military equipment, including: 297,000 aircraft; 193,000 artillery pieces; 86,000 tanks; and 2,000,000 army trucks. This transformation not only supported the war effort but also stimulated the U.S. economy, which had been recovering from the Great Depression.

Celebrate those who guided the "Arsenal of Democracy" in support of Allied victory!
